1. GX120 ENGINE (4 HP)2. APHL8 (TWO-STAGE PUMP)
3. 3030 BRACKET (ENGINE TO PUMP BRACKET)4. L095C (3/4″ COUPLER FOR ENGINE)
5. L090B (1/2″ COUPLER FOR PUMP)6. SP1 (SOLID SPIDER FOR COUPLERS)
7. HCV-LSS 1X21 (LOGSPLITTER CONTROL VAVLE)8. WPE3.5X24 (3.5″ BORE X 24″ STROKE CYLINDER)

Here is a common setup for a 12-ton log splitter.  This uses a Honda GX120 engine to power the APHL8 2-stage hydraulic pump.  The pump is held in concentric alignment to the motor with the 3030 mounting bracket.  This allows the shafts to be joined together by a set of Lovejoy 3-jaw couplers.  You will need two halves and the cushion spider to complete the set.  The GX120 has a 3/4” keyed shaft, which requires the L095C, and the APHL8 has a ½” keyed shaft, which will use the L090B coupler half.  The two halves are joined with a SP1 spider.

The 4HP GX120 motor is capable of generating up to 2500psi at fixed flow rates when coupled with the APHL8 pump.  When used with a 3.5” bore cylinder like our WPE3.5×24, it will generate 24,000 lbs of force on the end of the cylinder capable of handling seasoned 6” hickory logs up to 9” wet spruce.  Check out the value on our Magister HCV-LSS 1X21 valve. This would be a great combination for an individual who only splits small hardwood logs or dry pine.

Logsplitter Cycle Times:

This configuration will result in the following cycle times.

  • 7.5 sec to extend the cylinder
  • 5.5 sec to retract the cylinder

The pump is held in concentric alignment to the motor with the 3030 mounting bracket.  This allows the shafts to be joined together by a set of Lovejoy 3-jaw couplers.  You will need two halves and the cushion spider to complete the set.  The GX160/GX200 has a 3/4” keyed shaft, which requires the L095C, and the APHL8/APHL11 has a ½” keyed shaft, which will use the L090B coupler half.  The two halves are joined with a SP1 spider.  When used with a 4” bore cylinder like our WLS4x24, it will generate 37,680 lbs of force on the end of the cylinder, capable of handling seasoned 10” hickory logs up to 12” wet spruce.  Any of our log-splitter valves will work with this arrangement.  Check out the value on our Magister HCV-LSS 1X21 valve. This would be a great combination for an individual who splits up to 16” coniferous logs like spruce or pine.

The first two use a Honda GX200 engine to power either the APHL8 2-stage hydraulic pump or the APHL11 2-stage hydraulic pump.  The 6.5HP GX200 motor is capable of generating up to 3500psi at the fixed flow rates when coupled with the APHL8 pump.  The APHL11 flows more than the other pump, resulting in quicker cycle time, but it does so by sacrificing the amount of pressure it is capable of producing.  Combination B) GX200/APHL11 is at its absolute maximum potential when rated at 22 tons.  Either pump is held in concentric alignment to the motor with the 3030 mounting bracket.  This allows the shafts to be joined together by a set of Lovejoy 3-jaw couplers.  You will need two halves and the cushion spider to complete the set.  The GX200 has a 3/4” keyed shaft, which requires the L095C, and the APHL8/APHL11 has a ½” keyed shaft, which will use the L090B coupler half.  The two halves are joined with a SP1 spider.

The third option uses a Honda GX270 engine to power the APHL16 2-stage hydraulic pump.  The 9HP GX270 motor is capable of generating up to 3500psi at fixed flow rates when coupled with the APHL16 pump.  The pump is held in concentric alignment to the motor with the 3032 mounting bracket.  This allows the shafts to be joined together by a set of Lovejoy 3-jaw couplers.  You will need two halves and the cushion spider to complete the set.  The GX270 has a 1” keyed shaft, which requires the L095, and the APHL16 has a ½” keyed shaft, which will use the L090B coupler half.  The two halves are joined with a SP1 spider.

When used with a 4” bore cylinder like our WLS4x24, it will generate 43,960 lbs of force on the end of the cylinder, capable of handling seasoned 12” hickory logs up to 18” pine.  Many of our log-splitter valves will work with this arrangement.  Check out the value on our Magister HCV-LSS 1X21 valve.
